THE "BIBLE" FOR RIGHTS OF WAY ETC

Ross-on-Wye & District Civic Society newsletter Autumn 2007 (number 93)
Article by Philip Anderson (Hon Sec)

Owen Morgan, the Society's expert on rights of way, has drawn attention to two important volumes, which form the "bible" for anyone who is involved in seeking to establish or maintain rights of way or common land. These are:-

"Rights of Way, a Guide to Law and Practice" by John Riddell and John Trevelyan, published jointly by the Ramblers Association and the Open Spaces Society. It is available from Cordee Ltd, 3A De Montfort Street, Leicester, LEI 7HD, price £29.95 plus £5.50 p&p. This is commonly known as "The Blue Book".

"Our Common Land, the Law and History of Common Land and Village Greens", published by the Open Spaces Society and available from them at 25A Bell Street, Henley on Thames, Oxon, RG9 2BA, price £30.00 inclusive of p&p. This is commonly known as "The Yellow Book".

In view of their cost users may prefer to consult a copy at a Reference Library, but Owen warns that both publications have recently gone into a new edition and it is essential to consult the up-to-date version. For The Blue Book this is the Fourth edition and for The Yellow Book the Sixth edition.
